Supporting ethical fashion

Slow fashion isn’t just about reducing the number of garments in your wardrobe, it’s a whole approach to fashion which includes where the garments come from, how they are made and what they are made from.

At Precious Collaborative, our coats are made from quality New Zealand-made tweedish fabric, hand-woven by the boutique weaving company McLean & Co. in Oamaru. Strong wool is an abundant resource in New Zealand. It is timeless and adaptable, long wearing and yet highly wearable and breathable. It lends itself so well to repair and re-use to fit the circular design ethos.

This ethos is embedded in all that we do. Our commitment to dress you ethically is real. We commit not only to well-made and well-tailored garments, but we will use only sustainably sourced or found materials. We will ensure that we are contributing to the creation of wealth for others through the provision of jobs in the textile industry, and to drive demand for wool and hemp. And of course, we will ensure that we are adhering to human rights and equality benchmarks.

We will be guided by The United Nations SDG 12, referencing The Fashion Pact, and ensuring our production minimises carbon impact and textile waste, optimising circularity and gaining certifications that provide the public confidence in our processes.

We are aiming for BCorp and Toitū NZ accreditation as a minimum.
